Marsh Tapped as Administrator for Portland Medical Center

PORTLAND, Tenn. (August 05, 2008) – Officials with Hendersonville Medical Center announced the appointment of Barbara Marsh as the Administrator for Portland Medical Center today. Marsh replaces retiring administrator Eddie Smith, who is returning to his native Texas to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Marsh brings more than 15 years of business leadership and marketing experience. For the last three years she has worked in combination of both hospital and physician practice management. She holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Western Kentucky University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Florida.

Currently, she is a member of the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee and Ambassador Program, and vice president of the Sumner County Medical Group Management Association. Before relocating to Tennessee, she served as board chair for the American Red Cross in Florence, South Carolina.

For the last eight years, Marsh has resided in Gallatin with her family.

“We are excited to have Barbara on board with us,” said Regina Bartlett, chief executive officer for both Hendersonville Medical Center and Portland Medical Center. “Her business knowledge coupled with her passion for healthcare will be a great benefit to Portland Medical Center, and our management team is confident she will be a great asset for the Portland community.”

Smith echoed Bartlett’s comments.

“After serving as administrator of this facility for the last seven years, I am emotionally invested in Portland Medical Center as well as the city of Portland,” Smith said. “I am convinced Barbara Marsh will have a positive impact on our hospital and our community and am excited about where Portland Medical Center will go under her leadership.”

Marsh officially joins the Portland Medical Center family on August 13 and will work with Smith until his departure on August 31.
